Tango industry
From a quantitative perspective the economic expansion of the diffuse urban tango industry has been tripled since 2001, producing up in 2006 a direct income of approximately 135 million USD and provoking an indirect economic impact of nearly a half billion USD. It is estimated that more than eighty percent of this expanding economic sector derives from international tourism. Approximately 300 milongas (Tango events) per week in 120 different locations take place in Buenos Aires, convening more than 35.000 dance practitioners. Further, there are estimated to be more than 300 places where nearly 2500 dance instructors give tango lessons.
